Legislative Fix - Practice Act Amendment - HB-188 and SB-213 - CALL NOW
Fri, Jan 29th 2010, 13:49NMMS requested that two bills be introduced - HB-188 and SB-213 - which would would amend the medical practice act. The bills would allow the NM Medical Board to license medical corporations. This change would address concerns raised by the Division of Insurance about the definition of a medical corporation in the Medical Malpractice Act. The concern was that, although regulated and certified as a corporation by the state, medical corporations are not licensed separately by the state to provide health care. HB-188 and SB-213 modify the medical practice act in such a way that the NM Medical Board would license medical corporations. Please contact your legislators ( http://www.nmlegis.gov) and express support for these bills, sponsored by Rep. Jim Trujillo and Sen. Stuart Ingle, which fix the identified issue while maintaining the Medical Malpractice Act which has proved to be such a model for the rest of the nation and a stable base for medicine in the state.
