American Medical Association
The AMA meets twice annually. The Society’s two delegates and two alternate delegates are elected at the NMMS House of Delegates for a two-year term. The AMA delegation attends the meetings and summarizes their actions in a report to the Medical Society.

AMA - Young Physician Section [YPS]
The YPS assembly meets twice annually and includes members from every state and specialty to discuss solutions to both local and national concerns. Members must be less than 40 years old or in their first eight years of practice if over age 40.

Children’s Medical Services
This committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Children’s Medical Services of the Public Health Division and the Department of Health.

Clinical Prevention Initiative
The Clinical Prevention Initiative (CPI) participates in workgroups are in various stages of intervention planning and operation. There are currently five active intervention workgroups: 1) Chlamydia-Gonorrhea Screening and Treatment, 2) Colorectal Cancer Prevention, 3) Healthier Weight Counseling and Treatment, 4) Immunization, and, 5) Tobacco Cessation Counseling and Treatment.

Constitution & Bylaw Committee
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee is a fact-finding and advisory committee on all matters pertaining to the constitution and bylaws of the New Mexico Medical Society. All proposed amendments to the constitution and bylaws shall be referred to this committee for study and recommendation prior to being considered and debated by the House of Delegates.

Continuing Medical Education [CME]
The New Mexico Medical Society Continuing Medical Education Committee (NMMS-CME) has been reviewed and recognized by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). As a recognized accreditor, the committee has the authority to certify organizations and institutions in New Mexico as accredited providers of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).™ The committee also plans the CME activity for the NMMS annual scientific meeting.

Health System Reform Committee
The Health System Reform Committee shall meet to develop plans and implementation strategies for the health system reform principles adopted by the New Mexico Medical Society or pertinent issues referred for consideration by the president.

History of Medicine in New Mexico
The History of Medicine Committee shall monitor the history of medicine in New Mexico and provide guidance and assistance to the University of New Mexico Medical Center Library now known at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center.

Legislative Committee
The Legislative Committee shall be appointed by the president. All Council members will serve on the Legislative Committee and shall endeavor to secure and enforce legislation in the interest of public health and medicine.

Liaison Committee to the Department of Health & Environment
The Liaison Committee to the DOH shall act in an advisory capacity and meet with representatives of the departments for the purpose of addressing the Society’s concerns regarding public health matters.

Liaison Committee to Human Services Department [HSD]
This Liaison Committee to HSD committee shall act in an advisory capacity and meet with representatives of the Human Services Department to bring before them the wishes of the Council and House of Delegates pertaining to matters of the Human Services Department.

Liaison Committee to Managed Care
The Liaison Committee to Managed Care shall maintain an ongoing dialogue with all major managed care plan medical directors to discuss and seek solutions for problems that occur between the plans and physicians. Medical directors of all managed care plans are included in this committee.

Liaison Committee to UNM School of Medicine
This Liaison Committee to UNM SOM serves as a link between the New Mexico Medical Society and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. The committee shall serve in an advisory capacity to the UNM School of Medicine in order to acquaint it with the needs and wishes of the New Mexico Medical Society regarding post-graduate education programs, and the adaptation of the special School of Medicine facilities to programs which are in the best interest of the medical community at large. It will also aid the School of Medicine staff and authorities with any problems which the school may encounter at the state level.

Medical-Legal Committee
The Medical-Legal Committee shall be responsible for considering medical-legal problems.

NMMS/NM State Bar Committee
The NMMS/NM State Bar Committee shall meet with representatives of the New Mexico State Bar to discuss mutual concerns regarding medical-legal issues. The committee will keep an open dialogue between members of the two professional organizations.

NM Political Action Committee [NEMPAC]
The New Mexico Medical Political Action Committee (NEMPAC) is a separate segregated fund of the New Mexico Medical Society. It does what NMMS cannot do - provide financial support for candidates running for statewide legislative and judicial races and for congressional races. The NMMS president appoints the board of NEMPAC yearly. NEMPAC is a voluntary, non-profit, unincorporated committee of individual physicians and is not affiliated with any political party.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is composed of four members elected by the House of Delegates and three members appointed by the president-elect and confirmed by the Council. The committee selects two or more candidates for most offices. The committee meets at the discretion of its chair or at the direction of the president of the Society.

Professional Review & Advocacy Committee [PRA]
The PRA committee shall review disputes which arise between members of the Society and third-party carriers or government agencies regarding quality or quantity of professional care. It shall make recommendations to the parties involved for the amicable settlement of such disputes. It shall investigate, study, and review all aspects of those organizations which function in a third-party capacity in all medical affairs.

Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee shall be to give the public a better knowledge and understanding of the purposes and objectives of medicine. Subject to the advice of the Council or House of Delegates, the committee will determine and appropriately announce the policy of the Society in all matters involving public relations. This committee shall coordinate those activities of other standing and special committees and statements of the Society to persons or agencies outside our membership.
