Clinical Prevention Initiative
Clinical Prevention Initiative Overview
The Clinical Prevention Initiative (CPI) is a collaboration of the New Mexico Medical Society and the New Mexico Department of Health with the goal of improving the quality and enhancing the delivery of clinical preventive services in the state. CPI was created to promote and support practice commitment and system development for selected high priority services, to facilitate integration of preventive care in physician offices, and to provide better services to patients across the state.
A published article provides more information on the history, structure, role and accomplishments of the CPI "The New Mexico Clinical Prevention Initiative: A Statewide Prevention Partnership" Public Health Reports/May-June 2007/Vol 122.
Eight interventions have been addressed by CPI, twohree of which are currently active and are highlighed below:
- Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Screening and Treatment
- Colorectal Cancer Screening
- Healthier Weight
- Immunizations
- Mammography Screening and Follow-Up
- Problem Drinking Screening and Intervention
- Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation
- Unintended Pregnancy Prevention
In order to provide better oversight and expedite more urgent decisions, the Governance Guidelines established an Executive Committee. Members of the Executive Committee for 2010-2012 are Lynn Bryant MD, Lance Chilton MD, Richard Kozoll MD, MPH, Albert Rizzoli MD, Duane Ross MD, Eugene Sun MD, Jeannette Velarde MD, Karen Armitage MD, Susan Baum MD, MPH, Dan Burke, and David Espey MD.
