Goal:

CPI Intervention:

  • With funding from the Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program at the New Mexico Department of Health, CPI developed educational materials for primary care physicians and healthcare professionals. The notebook, Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Program: A Continuing Education Program for Healthcare Practitioners in New Mexico (3rd edition), was updated in June 2007 and is available for download at: http://www.nmms.org/docs/TobaccoUsePrevJune07.pdf .  Prescription pads with helpful cessation tips and pharmacotherapy options and patient brochures geared to a patient’s “stage of change” are also available.
  • In addition, on-site tobacco use prevention and cessation consultation at clinics, offices, and hospitals is offered. Physician speakers provide an introduction to tobacco intervention and use of CPI materials. Consultants are also available to help practices develop practical approaches to counseling, pharmacotherapy, and office systems tailored to the practice. There is no charge for on-site consultation.  To request a consultation or a hard copy of any materials, please call 505-828-0237 or email cpi@nmms.org.
