of New Mexico women giving birth stated that the pregnancy was unintended
(in 2002: 33.8% mistimed, 10.5% unwanted). *
- Although more contraceptive methods are available than at any other time in
history, 57% of women not trying to get pregnant were not using a contraceptive method in 2002.*
- Among women not using contraception, 29% cited difficulty obtaining
contraception and 14% reported side effects with their method as reasons for not using contraception.*
*from New Mexico Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System Report, April 2005
