The NM Medical Board requires physicians applying for or renewing their licenses to complete a detailed survey. The survey answers are compiled into a MD/DO database. The 2012 Legislature moved the management of this database from the Department of Health to the UNM Office of Community Health and Center for HealthCare Workforce Analysis. The legislature also called for the creation of a “Council” of all relevant healthcare organizations.

The New Mexico Health Care Workforce Committee began meeting in 2013,  and since then they have used data from the licensure surveys of physicians and other health care providers to publish a report given to the Health and Human Services Interim Committee on October 1 of each year.  The third and latest report, available for download now, analyzed data on primary care physicians, certified nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physician assistants, obstetrics and gynecology physicians, general surgeons, psychiatrists, dentists, and pharmacists.
