NMMS has been communicating and working with Human Services Department on the significant financial shortfall New Mexico is facing this year in the Medicaid budget due to the decrease in oil prices. The price decrease, while good news when filling up your car, has negatively impacted the collections of taxes on oil, gas, and Gross Receipts Tax from businesses in communities across the state – essentially creating a vortex that has drained the tax base and state coffers.
On August 1, 2016 physician payments for Medicaid were decreased. NMMS wants to be sure members are aware of the
fee schedule, final rule and clarification notice.
Hospitals, nursing homes and other providers fees were reduced July 1, 2016.
We will keep you updated in the weeks ahead as we anticipate a Special Legislative Session to address the state budget shortfall of $400M+.
