In 2011, the NM legislature mandated that health professional be surveyed during their re-licensure.  You and I complete this survey every three years with the Medical Board or Osteopathic Board.

Each year, the NM Health Care Workforce Committee staff collate and analyze the data provided by the licensing boards and issue a report.  The 2019 NM Health Care Workforce Committee report includes analysis of primary care physicians, specialists in OB-Gyn, general surgery, and psychiatry, physician assistants, nurses (registered, certified nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists) midwives (certified and licensed), dentists, and emergency medical technicians.  NMMS Past-President Sandra Whisler MD represents the Society on the committee.

There are also 15 recommendations to address health care workforce recruitment and retention.

Though no survey is perfect, this report provides the best estimates of the health care workforce practicing in New Mexico during any part of calendar year 2018. Pages 1-8 describe the background, methodology, benchmarks, limitations, and summary of the survey.
